Cannabis To File Patent For Cannabis Processing, Drug Delivery Systems

PBR Staff Writer Published 19 June 2009

To be the company’ first official filings

Cannabis Science (Cannabis) is all set to file patent for two of its key innovations, processing systems and drug delivery systems. Cannabis' management has authorized expenditures for patents, the innovations will be the company’ first official filings.

Dr. Mary Ruwart, Vice President of Research & Development, Cannabis, said: “The Drug Development Team members recognize the importance of having our first cannabis-based medicine covered, not just by one patent, but by two. A competitor can sometimes engineer a way around a single patent. Patenting both the manufacturing process as well as the delivery system virtually guarantees that our product will be immune to ‘invasion’ by a competing company.”

Steve Kubby, CEO of Cannabis Science, is the inventor who will assign both of his patents to Cannabis Science. He said: “Our new manufacturing process allows for the rapid and uniform harvesting of cannabis ‘trichomes,’ the part of the plant containing the active ingredient, THC. Just as the cotton gin made cotton harvesting economically feasible, our innovative process will revolutionize trichome harvesting.
